Berlin, February
1, 1983: Vice President George Bush signs
autographs for a delighted crowd at the U.S. Command Berlin Sports Center. Bush
had just made his first visit to the Berlin Wall, and called it "one of
the cruelest existing realities of our time." He added that having seen
the infamous barrier, "I'll never again take freedom for granted."
Six years later, during his presidency, the wall finally came down.
