Frankfurt, Germany, February 5, 1955: U.S. Air Force Maj. Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager holds a book that might prove useful to him in his new job commanding a Sabrejet squadron at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. A few months earlier, Yeager had received the Harmon Air Trophy for setting the world speed record of 1,650 m.p.h. in a Bell X1A in December, 1953.
