Garmisch, Germany, February 3, 1959: USAFE baseball clinic instructors Joe Garagiola, left, and Early Wynn have a laugh over the concept of a catcher's shin guards being worn over Ludwig Eberl's traditional lederhosen. The early start to the 1959 baseball season apparently had no ill effects on Wynn, who went on to win 22 games and earn the Cy Young Award at age 39.
