Garmisch, Germany, January 27, 1958:
Bobsledder Eugenio Monti of Italy mingles with fans after
teaming up with Renzo Alvera to win the two-man race at the world
championships. Monti won two Olympic gold medals and added nine golds in the
world championship in his career, but is perhaps best known for his
sportsmanship at the 1964 Olympics. The British team broke a bolt on its sled,
and Monti provided a replacement; Britain won and Monti's team took the bronze.
And when the Canadian team damaged its sled, Monti and his crew helped repair
it.
