Innsbruck,
Austria, February, 1964: If this ski jumper needed a reminder
that he wasn't competing in a normal meet, all he had to do was look at the
Olympic flame burning at the end of the outrun at the Berg Isel venue. The 1964
Games were threatened by a lack of snow, but Austrian army troops came to the
rescue by hauling in 20,000 ice bricks for the bobsled and luge runs and 40,000
cubic meters of snow for the alpine events.
