Munich, Germany, September 6, 1972: West German Chancellor Willy Brandt and Israeli Olympic Team chief Shmuel Lalkin are deep in thought during a memorial service at Munich's Olympic Stadium for 11 Israeli athletes killed by terrorists the day before. At the service, International Olympic Committee President Avery Brundage announced to the crowd of 84,000 that the games would continue.
